  • Weight gain that won’t budge?

  • Brain fog or poor focus?

  • Low libido or hormone shifts?

  • Bloating or stubborn constipation?

  • Mood swings, anxiety, or irritability?

Why NH Functional Medicine Is Different

Most healthcare treats symptoms in isolation.

You have fatigue? Here’s a prescription.

You gain weight? Try harder.

You feel anxious? Reduce stress.

But the body doesn’t work in separate parts — it works as one interconnected system.

At NH Functional Medicine, we look at the full picture.

Your fatigue may not be “just aging.”

Your weight gain may not be “just calories.”

Your anxiety may not be “just stress.”

These symptoms are often connected to deeper imbalances like hormone shifts, insulin resistance, gut dysfunction, chronic inflammation, or nutrient depletion.

Instead of masking symptoms, we use advanced lab testing and a root-cause approach to uncover what is truly driving them. Then we build a strategic, personalized plan to restore optimal function — so you don’t just feel normal… you feel strong, clear, and fully yourself again.

This is precision, data-driven care for men and women in Pennsylvania who are ready for real answers.

Concerns We Address

At NH Functional Medicine, we focus on three core systems that drive how you feel every single day: hormones, gut health, and metabolism.
When these systems are out of balance, symptoms show up. We help uncover why.

Hormone
Health

Hormones regulate energy, mood, sleep, metabolism, and libido. When they shift, everything can feel off.

We commonly address:

  • Perimenopause and menopause symptoms

  • Low testosterone (men and women)

  • Thyroid dysfunction

  • Adrenal and cortisol imbalance

  • Fatigue and low motivation

  • Mood swings, anxiety, irritability

  • Sleep disruption

  • Hair thinning and skin changes

  • Low libido

Gut
Dysfunction

Your gut impacts hormones, inflammation, immunity, and even mental clarity. If digestion is off, the whole body feels it.

We commonly address:

  • Bloating and constipation

  • IBS-type symptoms

  • Food sensitivities

  • Acid reflux

  • Leaky gut

  • Microbiome imbalance

  • Poor detoxification

  • Estrogen clearance issues

Metabolic &
Inflammatory Concerns

Stubborn weight gain and low energy are rarely about willpower. They’re often metabolic signals.

We commonly address:

  • Weight loss resistance

  • Belly fat gain

  • Insulin resistance

  • Blood sugar swings

  • High inflammation

  • Elevated cardiometabolic markers

  • Brain fog

  • Energy crashes

Root-Cause Functional Lab Testing

We use comprehensive and advanced lab testing to look beyond surface-level markers and uncover the true drivers of your symptoms. This may include detailed bloodwork, hormone panels, cardiometabolic markers, micronutrient analysis, and specialty functional testing. Your results are evaluated through an optimal functional lens — not just whether they fall inside a wide “normal” range.

Hormone
Optimization

Hormones influence energy, mood, sleep, body composition, metabolism, and overall vitality. We evaluate thyroid function, cortisol patterns, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone to identify imbalances contributing to your symptoms. When appropriate, we provide guidance for bioidentical hormone optimization combined with lifestyle and nutritional support to restore balance safely and strategically.

Inflammation & Metabolic Risk Reduction

Chronic inflammation and metabolic dysfunction are often silent drivers of fatigue, weight gain, and long-term health risk. We evaluate markers such as fasting insulin, inflammatory indicators, and cardiometabolic labs to identify hidden patterns. From there, we build a targeted plan to calm inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, and strengthen long-term resilience.

Functional Nutrition & Metabolic Support

Nutrition is foundational to hormone health and metabolic performance. This is not a restrictive diet plan — it is a structured, sustainable approach built around your labs, goals, and long-term health.

Lifestyle & Performance Optimization

Sleep quality, stress resilience, movement patterns, and daily habits all directly influence hormone balance and metabolic health. We provide practical, realistic strategies to improve sleep, regulate the stress response, support nervous system balance, and build sustainable routines that enhance how you feel and function each day.

For select patients, we offer advanced peptide therapies designed to support metabolic optimization, muscle preservation, recovery, inflammation reduction, and healthy aging pathways. All peptide therapies are carefully evaluated within your full clinical picture, lab findings, and long-term goals. About Us

I’m so glad you are here!

Nikki Helbling, DNP, CRNP, FMACP

Nikki is a lifelong learner with a deep passion for helping people feel better in their bodies and confident in their health decisions.

She began her education with a Bachelor of Science from Westminster College in Pennsylvania, followed by a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Early in her career, Nikki worked in a multidisciplinary practice as the Director of Rehabilitation, where she saw firsthand how movement, nutrition, and whole-person care could transform lives. That experience sparked her desire to pursue medicine and care for people on a deeper level.

Nikki went on to work across many areas of nursing, caring for patients from infancy through older adulthood. While she loved advocating for patients and their families, she wanted more autonomy to provide thoughtful, comprehensive care. She returned to school to become a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice.

As a Nurse Practitioner, Nikki practiced in emergency medicine, critical care, endocrinology, geriatrics, palliative care, and hospice. Walking alongside individuals and families during the most vulnerable moments of life deeply shaped her approach to care—teaching her the importance of attentive listening, presence, and honoring each person’s story.

Driven to move beyond symptom management, Nikki completed extensive training in functional medicine and multiple advanced hormone health programs, embracing a holistic, whole-person approach to care. Through this work, she developed a strong focus on gut health, recognizing the gut as a central driver of hormone balance, immune function, metabolism, and overall well-being. She specializes in helping women navigate perimenopause, hormone imbalance, digestive concerns, metabolic challenges, and chronic symptoms that are often dismissed as “normal.”

Today, Nikki blends evidence-based medicine with a holistic, functional approach—addressing hormones, gut health, nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset—to uncover root causes and create personalized plans that support long-term vitality. Her care philosophy centers on partnership, education, and shared decision-making, so patients feel heard, empowered, and supported every step of the way.
